Folk Music Festival Dept: The band's management applied for a visa to both the U.S. and Canada ahead of a summer tour across North America. Tinariwen was allowed into the U.S. to begin the tour, which was to end in Vancouver on Sunday at the festival, but their application to enter Canada was denied, according to Vancouver Sun. On Friday morning in Los Angeles, the band was told that a second application to enter Canada had again been denied, forcing folk fest organizers to pull the plug on the band's scheduled daytime workshop and Sunday evening headline performance on the festival's main stage and malian world music superstars Tinariwen have been denied entry into Canada, preventing them performing at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival this weekend. The news forced the band to cancel a performance at the Winnipeg Folk Festival last weekend as well as this weekend's Vancouver festival. As reported in the news.
