Asian Backgrounds: Canadian Universities

Fear Mongering Dept: Reading about the high numbers of students of East Asian backgrounds at Canadian universities reminded me of another such event which occurred about 60 years ago when some of our more illustrious Canadian universities decided to enact a quota system limiting the numbers of Jews entering some of their professional schools. I m sure the fear-mongering rhetoric sounded much the same as we re hearing about Asian students today. It was racism 60 years ago and it s still racist today. Among many immigrant communities, education is seen as the main avenue for success.
