Island Suburb: Immigration

Signature Event Dept: The first Irish Family Day, Sunday in the off-island suburb of Ste. Julie, is an attempt to stimulate interest in Irish culture among children and grandchildren of Irish immigrants to Montreal, according to Montreal Gazette. But since the parade has evolved into an ethnically ecumenical spring celebration, organizers of the Irish Family Day have put together an event more narrowly focused on Irish cultural and sporting traditions and there will be no green beer or parade floats, but the Irish will gather this weekend for a party as good as any the Montreal ethnic community has come to be known for. Montreal's annual St. Patrick's Parade, now heading into its 187th consecutive year, is and will remain the signature event of the Irish community. As reported in the news.
