RCMP Dept: The fraudster hacked into the pub's payment card processing software by bypassing a faulty firewall, giving the person access to dozens of cards, according to Vancouver Sun. "It's not a normal file. We don't get these files every day or every week or every month coming across our desk," he said. "It is something that is more sophisticated." RCMP say at least 50 customers of Langford's Station House Pub had their credit-card numbers stolen by a sophisticated hacker in a scheme that a financial crimes expert says is extremely rare. Sgt. Andrew Cowan, who heads the Island chapter of the RCMP's commercial crime unit, said he hasn't seen a data breach like this on Vancouver Island in his nine years with the unit.
