Vicepresident Dept: The TD Canada Trust Boomer Buyers Report shows that three-quarters of baby boomers - born between 1946 and 1964 - in B.C. expect they will retire mortgage free, and those who do need a mortgage are trying to pay it off as early as possible, according to Vancouver Sun. The study was based on an online survey conducted by Environics Research Group, and included a total of 1,025 completed surveys, including 148 in B.C., done June 16 to 28, 2011. "It's encouraging that B.C. boomers are taking steps to ensure they will not carry a mortgage into retirement," Mike Pride, district vicepresident, TD Canada Trust, Vancouver, said in an interview. Pride said increasing the size or frequency of mortgage payments can save thousands of dollars and shave years off the life of a mortgage.
