In 2005, Clarkson founded the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, which helps acculturate new Canadians and fORMER governor general Adrienne Clarkson will speak at the West End Cultural Centre on Nov. 6, co-presented by McNally Robinson Booksellers and her publisher, Penguin. The book explores the immigrant experience and how immigrants' struggles and successes have enriched Canada. Clarkson herself was born in Hong Kong and came to Canada as a refugee with her parents in 1942.
