Life Experiences Dept: These books are human beings that speak, says Stephen Lam of Catholic Community Services of York Region, according to The Star. The idea of a human library began in Denmark in 2000 at a music festival and quickly caught on in Europe and Australia. They are sometimes set up in schools or as a part of major events, but often take place in public libraries. It s still a new concept in North America and it s not your typical library collection. In the case of the so-called human library taking place in York Region over the next two Saturdays, the living book collection is actually a collection of Canadian immigrants who, through storytelling, will relate life experiences of the trials and tribulations of immigrating to a new country.
