Van Heflin Dept: Tavernier wanted to return to the fest this year, but had no new films of his own to show. So he found a different way in: by delving into the archives of cinematic history and dusting off some personal favourites - all but one by directors who are long dead - to screen here, according to Montreal Gazette. Three are three "underappreciated" American crime noirs: Pitfall 1948 , directed by Andr de Toth and starring Dick Powell as a Los Angeles insurance agent investigating an embezzlement; Cry Danger 1951 , by Robert Parrish, again starring Powell, this time as an ex-con bent on revenge; and The Prowler 1951 , directed by Joseph Losey, starring Van Heflin as a crook ed cop and when the veteran French director Bertrand Tavernier flew to the Montreal World Film Festival last year, he came bearing gifts: his two most recent films, the American murder mystery In the Electric Mist 2009 and the French costume drama La princesse de Montpen sier 2010 . He didn't get his every wish. But in the end, Tavernier will wind up spending three days at the NFB Cinema introducing and taking audience questions about six films he loves. As
reported in the news.
