Immigration: City Planners

Strike Vote Dept: The 4,000-member union of city planners, 311 operators and other inside workers has applied for a June 16 strike vote after mediation failed last week, according to Calgary Herald. Marsden did, however, point out that walkouts could begin near the property-tax payment deadline and calgary's largest civic union is set to start rotating strikes later this month unless city managers boost the current wage proposal, which offers a smaller hike over its first two years than aldermen reaped for 2011 alone. Union president Peter Marsden said he wouldn't tip his group's hand and say exactly how the strike would unfold, other than explaining that workers wouldn't walk off in areas that involved safety, such as water treatment. As reported in the news.
