Canadian Citizen Dept: As an immigrant to Canada who subsequently became a citizen, I do not feel that it is fair to be able to bring in an elderly family member with the intention of them becoming a full-fledged Canadian citizen, according to Montreal Gazette. Brad Creamer Re: "Families without elders" Gazette, April 2 . Frankly, an 89-year-old immigrant, while certainly a benefit to her immediate family, can only become a financial liability to Canada. By all means, allow them to join their families here, but do not grant them Canadian citizenship. The sponsoring family should be 100-per-cent liable for their health care and welfare costs. If the family is willing to accept full responsibility for any potential costs, then allow them in. As
reported in the news.
