30th Anniversary: Opening Ceremony

Kickoff Dept: The society is marking 30 years of service to city newcomers and kicked off a series of events Wednesday at its anniversary opening ceremony, according to Calgary Herald. Edwin Garcia spoke only Spanish when he came to Calgary in 2003 as a Colombian refugee with his wife and kids. Almost eight years later, he delivered a thank you speech in English at the 30th-anniversary kickoff and for 30 years, the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society has been investing in our city's biggest asset: people. The organization assists immigrants, refugees and temporary foreign workers resettling and integrating into Calgary. As reported in the news.
