Comic Book Industry: Comics Code Authority

Calgary Herald Dept: One was an anti-comics crusader who nearly destroyed the medium and the other a maverick comic book satirist who is said to have perverted an entire generation with his work, according to Calgary Herald. The alarmist 1954 text, which argued that comics promoted juvenile delinquency, helped spark a U.S. Congressional inquiry into the comic book industry. That in turn led to the establishment of censoring body, the Comics Code Authority and pulitzer Prize-winning comics creator Art Spiegelman credits two opposing forces for setting him on his path in life. The creator of Maus -the groundbreaking Holocaust narrative in which Jews are portrayed as mice and Nazis as cats -was 12-years-old when he first flipped through the pages of Seduction of the Innocent by psychiatrist Frederic Wertham. As reported in the news.
