Immigration: Irish Immigrants

Letter Feb Dept: I feel disappointment when I read all the letters from people blaming official multiculturalism for their own shortcomings. What cultural ghettos? Do they mean Chinatown, Little Italy, northeast Calgary, or maybe they mean all the wealthy who hide out in Mount Royal?, according to Calgary Herald. As for our Judeo-Christian heritage, not long ago there were almost uprisings among the common folk when some people wanted to let Jewish refugees from Europe into Canada. In our history, Japanese citizens have been robbed and jailed just for being Japanese, Irish immigrants were considered unclean scum and Chinese were brought in almost as slaves to build our railroads and re: "Enough's enough," Letter, Feb. 21, "Trudeau's fault," Letter, Feb. 20, "A must read," Letter, Feb. 15, and "Farcical," Letter, Feb. 13. Bring their own rules? Do they mean allowing police to wear turbans, allowing young girls to wear scarves or maybe allowing immigrants to speak their own language in their homes?
