Bev Oda: Scott Feschuk

Toronto Star Dept: Thomas Walkom , Toronto Star: From crime to KAIROS, Canada s Conservative government has developed a novel method for dealing with inconvenient reality: If the facts don t fit, invent new ones. . . The reality in Oda s case is that the government decided to eliminate about $7 million in funding for KAIROS because of the church-run charity s alleged support for attempts to boycott Israel. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney let that cat out of the bag in 2009. In fact, Kenney s allegation wasn t true. So the Conservatives invented a new reason: KAIROS s actions no longer fit the priorities of the government s Canadian International Development Agency, according to The Star. Bob Rae on Twitter @bobraeMP : Bev Oda is tied up in NOTS The Issue: International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda admitted in Parliament on Monday that she scrawled the word not into her department s recommendation to fund church-backed charity KAIROS, reversing the decision of top officials. Having previously denied knowing who wrote it, Oda was caught in a lie. Opposition MPs and editorial boards both called for her to quit or be fired. Scott Feschuk , Maclean s online : You have to admire the grade-school panache with which Oda tried to pull this off. The little up-arrow. The word NOT all in caps. SO ADORABLE. As reported in the news.
