Kripa Dept: More than 500 people descended on Toronto City Hall on Thursday for the launch of the Rewind the Cuts campaign by affected organizations, according to The Star. This is not just an attack on the South Asian Women s Centre, said the Toronto agency s executive director, Kripa Sekhar, whose organization will have to close after losing its $570,000 funding from Ottawa. It is an attack on Toronto and a war is brewing between Toronto and Ottawa over the recent federal cuts to immigrant services. At issue is the $22 million in cuts being made to settlement programs within Toronto this year more than half of the $43 million reduction in federal funding across Ontario. The move by Ottawa will eliminate almost 1,000 jobs in the GTA and jeopardize the services currently received by 10,300 newcomers. As
