New Immigrants: Workplace Training

Operations Director Dept: Most of the $53 million in federal government cuts will be felt in Ontario, where fewer newcomers to Canada settled last year. Nova Scotia will also receive less because the province attracts so few immigrants. The cuts mean $85 thousand less to support new immigrants in Halifax, according to CBC. "We need to get our numbers up. It's all tied to numbers," said Mills. "Last year 2,424 people came into the province, so the numbers are not increasing." Groups in Halifax that provide English language and workplace training for immigrants are preparing to make do with less money from Ottawa. Gerry Mills is the operations director of the Immigration Settlement and Integration Services Association or ISIS. As reported in the news.
