Federal Immigration Dept: Kudos to federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney for slashing funding to local settlement agencies. The money could be put to much better use, such as health care, according to The Star. Another program that should be axed is heritage language at taxpayers' expense. Many recent immigrants cannot speak a word of English or French, and it is not compulsory for them to learn either language, yet we are paying for their children to learn their native language. This is sheer madness and re: Tory spin doesn t add up, Editorial, Dec. 26 The immigrants who come here now are going to have to do what we all did observe and learn as they go along. It is not that difficult; they made it to this country so I am sure they would have no problem finding a grocery store, a doctor, etc. If they want to have social gatherings, they can do it in their homes. As
reported in the news.
