Steel Chairs: Immigration

Emily Carr Dept: For Bennett, that's the most useful pre-requisite for attending the free event, which features the whole artistic range from acrylic painting to fashion designers, now in its 14th year. Bennett says that right from the opening night of the event, which runs Nov. 26 to 28, the atmosphere is festive, according to Vancouver Sun. After 20 years as a carpenter, Bennett has just finished an industrial design degree at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Not the usual segue for a carpenter, he admits, but he lapped up the course, which inspired him conceptually, while he came armed with his technical skills. One of his most notable projects included a walk around Granville Island during the Winter Olympics with a hat that, from above, looked liked part of the cobblestones and if you're inquisitive, carpenter Dean Bennett and the other 380 exhibitors want to see you at the well-established Eastside Culture Crawl. "The crawl is organized by artists themselves, so I would say curiosity is the main attitude to have," says the maker of wooden crafts, from tall latticed cabinets to birch and steel chairs. "I'm excited. It's such a good networking opportunity to just put myself out there in terms of my skills and trade all around." As reported in the news.
