Parcel Bombs: Air Travellers

Arne Kislenko Dept: Arne Kislenko, a university professor who led the security and immigration team for Toronto's Pearson International Airport for about 12 years, said the new restrictions are the best measures the government can provide, but they don't eliminate or lessen threats to national security, according to Montreal Gazette. The regulations, which also ban any mail or cargo from Yemen, were created after officials in Dubai and in Britain discovered two U.S.-bound parcel bombs in cartridges coming from that country and new rules implemented by the federal government that ban air travellers from carrying large printer toner cartridges won't stop terrorist threats and were only created to relieve nervous Canadians, a former senior security officer of Canada's largest airport says. "I don't want to be dismissive and say they're unimportant, but they're kind of the flavour of the day," he said. "It's ridiculous for us to assume that any piece of technology or any kind of procedure is going to eliminate security threats all the time. Threats evolve too quickly, people are too inventive." As reported in the news.
