Oliver's "rebirth" begins in a sprawling metropolis, far from the back roads where he will experience his most tasty adventures. New York may seem an odd gateway city for a road show about backcountry cooking, but even in Manhattan a search "for the hottest tastes in town" will take him, for better and for worse, down dark alleys and into windy canyons between skyscrapers.
