Government Documents Dept: Filling out lengthy government documents, registering kids for school and buying basic household supplies might seem mundane for most Canadians, but can be overwhelming for newcomers, according to Montreal Gazette. The organization brings together 12 women from a variety of cultural backgrounds who are fluent in French and one other language, like Spanish, Arabic or Vietnamese and when immigrants arrive in Montreal, the first challenges they face are often the most difficult to overcome. Femme-Relais, a program operating in St. Michel, aims to help immigrant families in the simplest way possible: by meeting with them and going through a given task step-by-step in their language, at their pace.
