Vancouver Sun Dept: New immigrants to Canada often find the night of Oct. 31 startling, with macabre-costumed trick-or-treaters knocking on doors amid a general celebration of things dark and disembodied, according to Vancouver Sun. Canadian Immigrant magazine does a decent job of describing the Celtic origins of Halloween -including how it was brought to this country in the early 1800s largely by Scottish, Irish and Welsh immigrants and it's revealing that Canadian Immigrant magazine regularly runs pieces explaining the origins of Halloween. If they're allowed, children of all ethnicities typically get into Halloween in a big way. I'm convinced most Canadian kids, and adults, now like Halloween better than Christmas. It's less fraught with obligation and carries an intoxicating edge of mystery. As
