American Buddhist: Buddhist Society

Alternate Medicine Dept: Dr. James Chi Ming Pau has for 30 years fought to provide adequate housing, addiction counselling and free Chinese herbal medicine to new immigrants and the poor, particularly in Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside, according to Vancouver Sun. As a promoter of human rights and interfaith dialogue, Pau received Simon Fraser University's 2007 Gandhi Peace Award and Thakore Scholarship and a longtime ethnic Chinese social activist in the Downtown Eastside has received one of the federal government's 12 "Outstanding Canadian" awards. Since his arrival from Hong Kong in 1975, Pau has volunteered with the North American Buddhist Society and the immigration services agency SUCCESS, and spent hundreds of hours each year in the Alternate Medicine Clinic, charging nothing to see patients from diverse ethnic groups. As reported in the news.
