Woodlot Licence Dept: TWO NEW WOODLOTLICENCES AVAILABLE IN BOUNDARY COUNTRY VICTORIA Two newwoodlot licences open for bids near Christina Lake and Greenwood will createforestry employment and opportunities in both communities, Forests and RangeMinister Pat Bell announced today. Woodlots create employment, support local forestry businessesand mills, and promote enhanced silviculture and stewardship of our forests, said Bell. British Columbia s forestsector is strengthening through new international markets and increasedopportunities, including those for small tenure holders. One available woodlot licence includes 1,179 hectares to the east ofChristina Lake, with an allowable annual cut of 2,517 cubic metres. The otheris near Greenwood and covers just over 1,037 hectares with an allowable annualcut of 2,056 cubic metres. Both available woodlot licences consist of mostlyDouglas fir stands, and may also include private land contributed to thewoodlot by the successful bidders. Boundary Country residents are renowned for having a profoundinterest and close attachment to their local forests so I expect these two newwoodlot licences will garner a lot of interest. said Brian McNaughton, general manager for theFederation of B.C. Woodlot Associations. Woodlot licences make significant contributions to localcommunities. In addition to providing wood to local mills, the land ismanaged sustainably for the full range of forest values. Woodlotlicences are small, area based tenures that combine private land with up to 800hectares of Crown land on the Coast and 1,200 hectares of Crown land in theInterior, and are managed by individuals, groups or First Nations. Usually,they are replaceable tenures, awarded for 20 years. There are about 850 activewoodlots in British Columbia. Each woodlot generates jobs in planning, harvesting,road construction and maintenance, reforestation, silviculture and small scaletimber processing.
