science writers: Peter Calamai was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2014 for his achievements as a science journalist and for his contributions to the cause of literacy, according to Toronto Star. It was a passion he would pursue over more than four decades in daily newspapers, to foreign postings in Europe and Africa and the newsrooms of the Hamilton Spectator, Southam News, the Ottawa Citizen and the Toronto Star.
