triumphalist nationalism: Seriously, I'm quite fond of this near-Nordic nation, if not always gushy about the place, according to The Chronicle Herald. Our triumphalist nationalism, for instance, makes me cringe. For one thing, no other nation would open its arms to a 67-year-old crank with a weird health history. It all starts with our blood-and-guts obsession with hockey, which persists into the summer months when our fancy should turn to gimlets and grills. Canadians tend to see themselves as global citizens to the core welcoming to newcomers, fans of the United Nations, concerned about the fate of the Yemenis and the Rohingya Muslims.
