Originally from Darfur, a region wracked by civil war since 2003, the family was welcomed to Annapolis Royal through the efforts of Annapolis Royal Community Assisting Relocation ARCARe . ARCARe was formed in September 2015 to welcome a refugee family to Annapolis Royal. He, along with his mother and five siblings, came to Canada in June from a refugee camp in Chad where they had lived for 10 years. Under agreement with the federal government, ARCARe had to choose a Sponsorship Agreement Holder group to work with. From left Moustapha Hassan Haggar, Ikhlass Hassan Haggar, Ahmad Hassan Haggar, Faiza Djabir Nahar, Adam Hassan Haggar, Aimen Hassan Haggar, Nan Smith, Claire Buchanan, Saffa Hassan Haggar and Sheila Goldsmith.
