wasyliw: Trustee Mark Wasyliw said the program would target newcomers and indigenous Canadians but would be offered to all students, according to CTV. It not a swim course it a survival, life skills course, said Wasyliw. It comes after two of its students, David Medina, 12, and Jhonalyn Javier, 11, drowned while visiting Grand Beach with family in August. We would be targeting the entire division but we have two groups that are in the high-risk category for drowning and that newcomers and indigenous Canadians, said Wasyliw. He said the Toronto District School Board offers a Swim to Survive program developed by the Lifesaving Society of Canada. We want to make sure that our students have that basic level of survival skills when it comes to water.
