state dinner: If it were anybody but President Barack Obama that Trudeau was meeting March 10 in Washington for his first state dinner as prime minister, Trudeau might even have won himself a bit of a scolding for remarks he made in a 60 Minutes interview to be broadcast Sunday, according to Toronto Star. Asked by host Lara Logan what Canadians expected of their American neighbours, Trudeau replied: It might be nice if they paid a little more attention to the world. But he possibly did muddy the American welcome mat just a little. As the vastly smaller nation and economy, Canada always has to be aware of America, he said. If that sounds a tad cheeky, and it certainly lit up social media with outraged and profane response, Obama himself seems occasionally to have despaired of American self-absorption. We sometimes like to think that, you know, Americans will pay attention to us from time to time, too.
