: Arab Spring states, with the exception of Tunisia, are worse off than when they started, according to The Chronicle Herald. Libya, Yemen, Iraq and Syria have collapsed, causing a huge flood of refugees and civil wars. The setbacks since then, not just in my home country, Egypt, but in the entire region, are so great they are impacting the rest of the World. Egypt has joined a list of fragile states, like Lebanon and Jordan, that are afraid of being brought to the brink of collapse, either from political instability and foreign meddling in their political structures by Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, or by the heavy cost of taking on millions of refugees. Many moderates who were seeking Western-style democracy changed minds and hearts. The Egyptian military perceived role of stability has gained ground over an unpredictable democracy that brought the radical Muslim Brotherhood to power at a time when ISIS militants were sweeping across Iraq and Syria.
