: Apparently I was wrong, according to Toronto Star. As a former journalist with a challenged child not allowed into Canada I wrote many times, a decade or two ago, about the fact that everyone thinks Canada is such a welcoming country to immigrants but not to the disabled, no matter what their disability, physical or mental, even if they are your child or family member. Disbelief because I thought such outdated, cruel and ridiculous discrimination had been put aside years ago. Many seem to be still unaware about this draconian policy, which stems from an ancient law that was supposedly adjusted and, I thought, repealed in our more enlightened age. The story states that the immigration department feels the Down Syndrome boy, who is healthy and active, will be a burden on Canadian society. Nothing, however, seems to have changed.
