Wesley Urban Ministries and Temporary Housing

Stoney Creek: Alsalem and his family have been here since Jan. 8 and will move into a home in Stoney Creek next week, according to Hamilton Spectator. Wesley Urban Ministries is in need of homes as only about one-quarter of the refugees have moved out of temporary housing in hotels, as well as at the resettlement agency itself. He knew exactly where he wanted to go to "make a good future" for them. "My hope was to come to Canada," he said. "All my dreams were to come to Canada." He still can't believe he one of about 500 government assisted Syrian refugees to arrive in Hamilton over the past six weeks. A home means Alsalem kids, ranging in age from 18 months to 15 years old, can finally go back to school. "In Syria, they were up high in their classes," he said. "In Lebanon, they could not go to school. They felt like they'd lost everything." There was also no health or dental care in the refugee camp. "You had to pay for it yourself and it was expensive," he said. They were upset. (www.immigrantscanada.com). As reported in the news.
