John McCallum: At a news conference at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship John McCallum said the Liberal government had largely met our promises, according to Toronto Star. Only 6,000 refugees will land in Canada by Jan. 1, although 10,700 will be processed fully through all screening stages by the end of Dec. 31. and will be in Canada within the following two weeks, McCallum said. During the 2015 federal election campaign, the Liberals pledged to resettle 25,000 government-sponsored refugees immediately. Many of the arrivals are privately sponsored, some are said the Liberal government had identified 25,000 Syrian refugees by Dec. 24. We are in line to achieve our primary target of 25,000 by the end of February. They are expected to be resettled in Canada before the end of February.
