jurisdictions: Families are being placed in communities across the province, according to CTV. Their permanent residence will determine what school the children attend, and the school will determine how they are taught English. "In some jurisdictions, they will go to kind of a central welcome centre where they'll be intensively learning English, said Strong. Tammy Strong, the department diversity and respect co-ordinator, says the process will be gradual. "It happening a little perhaps more slowly than we had anticipated, said Strong. In other jurisdictions, they may be going directly into schools, where there will be English language tutors." The province is aiming to have 70 per cent of the refugee children in Anglophone schools. Once they’re actually in those accommodations, the children can start school. Multicultural organizations have been helping the department through this process. "Some of the first government-assisted families are just moving today actually into their permanent accommodations, said Lisa Bamford of the Multicultural Association of Fredericton.
