BMO Soccer Centre and Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia

Syrian civil war: Mohammad Alaz, 11, arrived in Halifax with his parents and younger sister 12 days ago, according to The Chronicle Herald. When the Syrian civil war flared up, the family had escaped their home in Homs to neighbouring Jordan, eventually finding relative safety at a refugee camp. Yet despite the cultural and linguistic differences, more than a dozen young Syrian refugees and volunteers from the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia spoke the same language Thursday as they played the beautiful game at the BMO Soccer Centre in Clayton Park. Mohammad and his friends had sparingly played soccer there, as conditions did not allow it, which is what made the visit to the BMO Soccer Centre all the more special for him. The ground wasn’t very good. I’m very happy here, he said through interpreter Issam Khoury. (www.immigrantscanada.com). As reported in the news.
