Syrian refugee children: Bronwen Wood is developing a colouring book that will help some Syrian refugees help adjust to their new lives in Windsor, according to CBC. Once the books have been printed, they'll be included in the welcome baskets provided to Syrian refugees by the Syrian Canadian Council. A high school teacher is trying to give Syrian refugee children their childhood back "one crayon at a time" and there are social events scheduled to help some of Canada newest residents meet their neighbours. First 'new wave' of Syrian refugees arrive in Canada from Lebanon City of Windsor says more housing needed for Syrian refugees Syrian teens get help at Windsor youth centre "I just thought about the kids in this situation," Wood said. "They're innocent, they really didn't deserve anything that happened to them. The pages will have English sentences and their Arabic translations, so the kids can begin learning simple English. I asked myself, 'What can I do to give them part of their childhood back.'" The pictures will have some of the Windsor area iconic scenes and landmarks: the Ambassador Bridge, Point Pelee National Park, the annual monarch butterfly migration in Leamington, Ont., and, of course, hockey.
