Children Place: It really helps them to have something warm for the kids for their first winter, said Marnie Bernstein, a family support worker at College-Montrose Children Place, according to Toronto Star. They always have a need for hats and mitts and all those things that get lost every year. That especially true when the temperature dips below zero and many parents and their children struggle through their first cold and snowy winter in Toronto. Families can apply to receive Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund boxes through the community group, which supports all types of needy families in the centre-west part of the city, including new immigrants. The fund provides gifts for underprivileged children at Christmas and its goal for 2015 is $1.7 million. Last year, the Children Place served more than 2,900 children and their families.
