donation centre: Al-Isawi is also volunteering to act as a translator through the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia . The refugee donation centre is filling up much faster than anticipated, according to CBC. It is estimated that people have donated close to 6,000 bags of clothing alone. Sulaiman Al-Isawi, 17, says he is happy to do volunteer work. "I like to help every people, not just in Arabic, every, every people," he said. The centre was slated to close at the end of January, but the province will be making an announcement on Wednesday as to whether it will stay open until then. "We have a fair amount of clothing now, I wouldn't say we're getting backlogged, but we're getting a little bit overwhelmed with the clothing," said Bill Hatter, the manager of the donation centre. To date, two refugee families have come through the centre to take what they need to begin their new lives in Canada. He says the volunteers are looking to refocus their efforts on items like furniture, toiletries and gift cards — things that don't require as much handling.
