Sheila Redden-Smith and Queens Refugee Care Team

Petite Riviere: Chairwoman Sheila Redden-Smith said the group is just one of several along the South Shore working toward sponsorship, according to The Chronicle Herald. You just wouldn’t believe how many endeavours are going on, Redden-Smith said. The Queens Refugee Care Team hopes to sponsor a family of six, and has already raised almost $11,000. A group in Yarmouth is sponsoring a family of three or four people, Barrington and Shelburne are each sponsoring a family of 10, another group in Shelburne hopes to bring a family of six and Petite Riviere also aims to bring a family of six. Redden-Smith said the profiles of Syrians in need of sponsorship are difficult to read. Many of the groups are working through the United Church of Canada to sponsor the refugees.
