Jahu Camara and Frances Willick

Gambia: Founded in 2011, the group welcomed its fifth refugee, Jahu Camara of Gambia, last month, according to The Chronicle Herald. Ms. The Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia focuses on people whose sexuality or gender puts them at risk of discrimination, brutality and even death in many countries. Camara spoke on Wednesday about her relief to be out of Gambia, where gays and lesbians, many of them friends, were arrested in a crackdown late last year. To be in Canada, she told The Chronicle Herald reporter Frances Willick, is like the beginning of the new life to me, and I so much appreciate it.... I’m feeling the real me. Some were released but the 20-year-old says others were tortured and have not been heard from since. (www.immigrantscanada.com). As reported in the news.
