On Tuesday the TDSB used Dewson as the place to launch a board-wide fundraising drive to support the Canadian Red Cross work with refugees overseas. Their Grade 6 social studies teachers are rewriting lesson plans each day to focus on how Canada and the world are treating refugees.A galvanized parent body has made Dewson the first school in the Toronto District School Board to decide to sponsor a refugee from Syria — from tackling the paperwork and helping them settle to raising the $30,000 required.
