: The event gives local residents a chance to celebrate diverse communities and welcome people who are new to the Halifax region, according to The Chronicle Herald. Sueda Ali moved to Halifax from Ethiopia almost 20 years ago, helps immigrants adjust to life in Nova Scotia by providing them life skills support through her job with the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia. Corn on the cob, beef, chicken and turkey hotdogs, salads and watermelon were on the menu for the hundreds of people from countries around the world gathered under sunny skies at the Halifax Common. They never saw anything like the winter or the culture; everything is completely different, she said. When Ali arrived in Canada, she said these type of supports were not available.
