Canadian Museum Immigration Pier: Thousands have visited the site since it opened in 1999 as a museum to commemorate the multitudes of immigrants who arrived in Halifax between 1928 and 1971 when it closed its doors to an entryway to Canada, according to The Chronicle Herald. After six months of re-development and re-construction, the museum re-opened in May 2015. The dynamic woman behind the development of Pier 21 as a national historical museum, who passed away in 2012 at age 88, would be grinning from ear to ear and beyond if she could see the bright, innovative and reimagined Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 on the Halifax waterfront. It brings a new look to a story that tells of the vast contributions of newcomers to Canada culture, economy and way of life, from early settler times to present day. The $30-million expansion to the Museum is highlighted by Canadian Immigration Hall, which follows waves of immigrants from the time they left their homelands until they settled in a new land. Guided tours and showings of a film, In Canada, highlighting the immigrant experience in Canada, happen regularly throughout each day.
