Emergency Task Force and Security Devices International

Micron Products: Blunt impact projectiles are the latest in a series of less lethal alternatives purchased by 16 law enforcement agencies in the United States and six in Canada, including Toronto police Emergency Task Force unit, according to Toronto Star. The BIP, manufactured by Massachusetts-based Micron Products, is a 40 mm bullet with a plastic body and a head containing a mix of gel and silicone. With police forces across North America taking a closer look at less lethal options in the wake of several high-profile shootings, Oakville-based Security Devices International has been filling orders for a bullet that expands on impact, causing massive pain to subdue an individual, but leaves no lasting injury. When shot out of a launcher, the bullet expands, targeting surface nerves and causing a high degree of pain, said SDI chief executive officer Greg Sullivan. Police will always have to carry firearms, because there are situations, especially where someone is armed, where police have to eliminate the threat right away. It just another option, said Sullivan, a retired Toronto police staff sergeant. (www.immigrantscanada.com). As reported in the news.
