Canada Health Act

: Granted that health is within provincial jurisdiction, there should be a role for Ottawa to co-ordinate health-care delivery and penalize provinces for violations of the Canada Health Act, according to The Chronicle Herald. Not to do so results in limited access to care by patients, and unfair treatment of physicians, who may eventually vote with their feet and leave their province. Although health remains a high priority with the public, sadly leaders of all three federal parties have largely avoided discussing it. Patients should — according to the Canada Health Act — enjoy freedom to obtain medical services across Canada. MDs shouldhave been promised, in writing, fair remuneration, the mobility to practise in the province of their choice and the assurance that contracts with government would not be unilaterally broken. In Section 12, physicians are entitled to a fair dispute resolution mechanism, although binding arbitration is not absolutely guaranteed. (www.immigrantscanada.com). As reported in the news.
