Immigrant Women: That less than half of the 2,000 newcomers that were settling in the city almost 10 years ago, according to CBC. Sudip Minhas, the executive director of Windsor Women Working With Immigrant Women, says the decreasing number of immigrants coming to the city has been alarming to see. About 900 immigrants are coming into Windsor each year. But Minhas believes there are certain reasons behind the decline, beyond the employment challenges in the city. "I know that one of the reasons that everyone talks about is unemployment, but there are more things that we can do, other than employment, that can actually attract newcomers," she told CBC Radio Afternoon Drive on Tuesday. She also believes there is "some kind of a resistance to amalgamating and incorporating newcomers" into the fabric of the city. "We were fortunate when we had good-paying jobs, say, about 10 years ago. Minhas said this includes addressing a lack of diversity in positions of decision-making in the city, as well as in the local workforce.
