Kitchener-Waterloo Newcomers Environmental Group and Community Garden

seedling: Cejudo hopes to plant that little seedling in a new community garden the group is starting up as part of a project to get newcomers involved in the whole cycle of food production, according to The Waterloo Record. The group held a seedling workshop attended by 22 people, who planted and germinated seeds they could later plant in pots at their homes, or bring to the community garden. Cejudo is one of the members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Newcomers' Environmental Group, a group of volunteers that hopes to get immigrants and new Canadians more involved in environmental activities. Next week, work begins on preparing the group two plots at the community garden on Tillsley Drive, in the Williamsburg area, in an area popular with new immigrants and easily accessible by transit. So far, participants included families and individuals who've come to the area from Latin America, Eastern Europe and all across Asia. Later, there will be a workshop on using worms to create compost, a harvesting party, field trip to a larger farm, and workshop on canning and preserving some of the bounty harvested from the gardens.
