: Our understanding of sexuality must respond to what we have learned, and what we have learned is that sexuality is far more fluid and complicated than the binary and restrictive paradigm that our culture has embraced for the past 4,000 years, according to Toronto Star. Our children are much more capable of understanding than we give them credit for. What has become clear by looking at patterns in the United States and Europe is that our current sex-ed programs do not go nearly far enough to promote healthy sexuality, support women rights, reduce incidence of teenage pregnancy and reduce STD rates. We teach what used to be Grade 6 math skills to our Grade 4 students. My children can explain some of the moral dilemmas and ethical reasoning expressed in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. My son could use egg cartons to explain the concepts behind his 12 times table when he was 6.
