Museum Immigration Pier Halifax: The Wheel of Conscience, a monument designed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind to commemorate the vessel turned away by Canada and other countries during the Second World War is now on the ground floor of the museum, where visitors can view it without having to pay admission, according to Toronto Star. The museum and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs had originally been trying to find another home for the monument, which had been undergoing technical difficulties since it was unveiled in 2011. Louis returned to its home at the Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax this week. It sat in the warehouse of Toronto-based builders Soheil Mosun Ltd. since they took it in for repairs last summer, and the uncertain future raised the ire of some members of the Jewish community who were behind the creation of the monument. Zoltak said the Wheel would have stayed where it was, unseen by the public, if his group had not intervened and voiced its displeasure. Sidney Zoltak, co-president of the Canadian Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendants, was thrilled to learn Thursday that the Wheel of Conscience was back where he always believed it belonged.
