United Nations and Stephen Harper

: In Kuwait donors have just pledged $3.8 billion, according to Toronto Star. And the UN is also scrambling to find safe haven for more of the 4 million people who have fled the country. The United Nations is struggling to raise $8.4 billion this year to help the 7 million Syrians who rely on humanitarian aid as the civil war drags into a fifth year. They are in greater danger from hunger, disease and exposure than from jihadists. Canada help so far has been good, but it could be better. Now that Prime Minister Stephen Harper Conservative government has wielded its majority in Parliament to extend and expand our involvement in Iraq and Syria for another year, Canadians of every political stripe will expect them to exert themselves on the humanitarian front as well.
